Psalm 37:4 - Delight yourself in the LORD;  And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Job 22:23-25 - “If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored;  If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent, And place your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks, Then the Almighty will be your gold And choice silver to you.”

Is it all right to pray for a Cadillac?

I was preparing, in the Fall of 1997, to come on Staff with CBMC.  I knew I was going to be doing some traveling, and our two cars shared 300,000 miles, so I asked the Lord to provide a newer one for us.  I knew I would have some cash from the sale of my business, but I said, “Lord, if You want to provide a car without a cost, that would be all right, too!”

Soon after that, when I called my mother, the first thing she said, was, “Eldon, how would you like to have a Cadillac?”  I figured she was talking about the car she had inherited from her late husband, and she had decided, at age 87, to stop driving.  When we drove out to Missouri for Thanksgiving, we came back with two cars!  The Cadillac was a white, 1990, with 19,500 miles on it!

I called it The Ministry Cadillac, and I drove it 9 years, until 2006, at which time it had 188,000 miles, and my mechanic wanted too much money to fix its issues.  When I told him that, he said, “Did you see the 1999 Cadillac on my lot?  A lady is selling it for her mother.”  Another 7-year-old white car, it had 22,500 miles on it!  We made a deal, and I sold my old car to my mechanic.  Most people didn’t even know I had a different car!

Nine years later, I was asking God what He had in mind for the next car, but He wanted to teach me some patience!  It was another 5 years before He brought the next one!  This time it was a 2007 bright red Cadillac DTS, with 45.000 miles and heated and cooled seats!  By this time, the 1999 had 225,000 miles on it, and was showing its age!  I sold it to a friend for a dollar!

I thought I was set with the last car I would need!  Until last Friday night, when a car turned into us on I-69, and took out the front right wheel and that quarter panel.  The airbags deployed, and we were stuck in the 4th lane of a 5 lane highway, with only our blinkers to protect us.  That, and God!  He kept us from being injured by the crash, and prevented any more collisions, in the 20 minutes it took for service people to arrive. The insurance company totaled our vehicle, and I am driving a rental car for two weeks.  So, I’m praying for another car, hoping God has another Cadillac for me, but trusting He will meet my needs in whatever way He chooses.  Romans 8:28 says, And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

If you know of someone who has a Cadillac for sale, that is several years old, with low mileage, let me know.  The last one came through a CBMC friend!  Maybe the next will, too!
