Living Out Your Divine Identity

Living Out Your Divine Identity
By: Eldon Kibbey

The Foundation of Our Calling

In his letters to the early churches in Ephesus and Thessalonica, the Apostle Paul issued a profound challenge: to walk in a manner worthy of the calling they had received. This was not an instruction to perform or strive to earn God’s favor. Instead, Paul spent the first three chapters of Ephesians establishing their identity—who they were and what they possessed in Christ. A “worthy walk” is simply the natural result of living out that identity and the benefits of being part of Christ’s body. We are called to His own kingdom and glory, and our lives are meant to bring honor to Him.

The Character of the Walk

Walking worthy is fundamentally about our internal character and our outward attitude. Paul identifies several key traits that define this journey:

  • Humility: This involves putting others first, serving as a natural overflow of loving God and loving people.
  • Gentleness: Because loving people is not always easy, we are called to interact with others through the lens of gentleness.
  • Patience and Tolerance: These traits are essential for maintaining relationships, requiring us to show tolerance for one another in love.
  • Diligence for Unity: We are commanded to be diligent in preserving the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

The Antidote to a World Without Peace

When we look at the lack of peace in our world today, the source is often found in the absence of these traits. Where there should be humility, there is arrogance and self-centeredness. Where there should be gentleness, there is abuse and brutality. Without the unity of the Holy Spirit, humans are incapable of walking in a manner truly worthy of God.

Fixing Our Eyes on the Source

True peace is found only through Jesus Christ. To walk worthy, we must fix our eyes on Him, allowing ourselves to be conformed to His image. This journey is not a solo endeavor; it is about walking with Jesus, walking in Jesus, and allowing Jesus to walk through us in every aspect of our lives. Whether we are dealing with difficult people or challenging circumstances, our ultimate goal remains the same: to honor and glorify God with our lives.

As you reflect on your own relationships and daily interactions, ask yourself: Are you walking worthy?
